Expanding the Circle of Compassion

Though often thought of as just for dogs and cats, the roots of humane societies actually began with horses and livestock. Only decades later did most of them get involved with sheltering dogs and cats. Why is that, and how can we as a society continue to expand the circle of compassion?

This interesting article discusses the need for -- and the difficulties surrounding -- advocacy efforts for other animals, including deer.
